About the Māori Firearms Forum (MFF)

The purpose of the Forum is to:

  • provide a formal mechanism for representation of Māori views on firearms possession, safe use, firearms licensing, and any other firearms related topics; and
  • input on settings flowing from the Arms Act 2026 or the Arms Regulations 2026; and
  • review and make recommendations for consideration on firearms related matters from a māori firearms user/community context.

Members of the forum consist of members of the community supported by FSE members. MFF members are selected for their:

  • broad skills, knowledge and understanding of firearms and issues/legislation relating to firearms among māori communities;
  • relevant practical experience and networks within māori communities and the firearms community;
  • ability to represent a diversity of perspectives within their firearms community
  • personal attributes and ability to work constructively with, and contribute to the forum;
  • being a representative of an incorporated group (who can represent the views of the group rather than their individual view).
