Apply to be recognised to possess restricted ammunition - collector or museum

Application form to be recognised by Firearms Safety and Education NZ as a certain person who may possess restricted ammunition as:

  • a bona fide collector of ammunition; or
  • a director or curator of a bona fide museum.

Apply to be recognised to possess restricted ammunition - researcher

Application form to be recognised by Firearms Safety and Education NZ as a certain person who may possess restricted ammunition as:

  • a researcher of the chemical makeup of certain types of restricted ammunition
  • a researcher employed or contracted by the New Zealand Defence Force
  • a researcher employed or contracted by the Institute of Environmental Science and Research Limited.

Notify Firearms Safety and Education NZ you are an ammunition seller

Notification form to self-identify to Firearms Safety and Education NZ that you are a person who is responsible for the day-to-day management of a business that includes selling or supplying ammunition.

Notify Firearms Safety and Education NZ of your intention to surrender a Business licence

Use this form to notify Firearms Safety and Education NZ that you intend to, or are surrendering your Business licence, or to surrender another person’s business licence where they are not able to do so.

Once completed, you'll need to submit this form:

Firearms Registry requirements apply from 24 June 2023

The first time you notify us of a change in your licence holder information (such as personal, business, contact or licence details) from 24 June 2023, you must register all items in your possession within 30 days.
