Apply online through MyFirearms
The fastest way to apply for a business licence (and endorsements) is online through MyFirearms
To use MyFirearms, you must have a mobile phone and a RealMe login.
What is MyFirearms?
MyFirearms is our online portal that lets you provide information for the Firearms Registry and apply for and manage your firearms licensing.
What is RealMe?
RealMe login is a service from the New Zealand government that lets you use one username and password to access a wide range of services online.
If you do not have a RealMe login already, you’ll be prompted to create one before you start your application. You do not need a RealMe verified identity.
Important Note
Do not use an Internet browser or Apple’s Preview application to open this form. Please save the form to your device and open it using Adobe Acrobat Reader. If the form is completed using a browser, the entered information may be lost if you click on the ‘back’ button or if you try to save it.

Log in
Visit MyFirearms and log in with RealMe. You’ll need your mobile phone to carry out the security check.

Create your MyFirearms profile
To use MyFirearms, you must first create a MyFirearms profile.
You need to provide your name, date of birth and the details of your New Zealand firearms licence.
A MyFirearms profile is unique to each person. It will be linked to your firearms licence, so you do not need to provide these details again when using MyFirearms.

Complete the Business Licence form
Select 'Business Licence' and complete the form.
If needed, complete the endorsements section of the form as well.

Pay the fee
You can pay online with Visa or Mastercard. You will be charged a card surcharge of 1.9%.
Note: When you apply online, you must pay the application fee in MyFirearms. Do not pay the application fee at an NZ Post shop

Submit your application
Review the summary, then submit the form.
You’ll receive an email to confirm we’ve received your application.
Other ways to apply
If you can't apply online through MyFirearms, you can submit your application by courier. Applications submitted by courier post may take longer to process.

Download, complete and sign the form
Download, complete all sections, and sign the form.
Submitting an incomplete form will delay the processing of your application.

Pay the fee and submit
You must pay at your local NZ Post shop.
You can submit your application and supporting documentation via courier to:
National Support Team, Firearms Safety and Education New Zealand, Level 3, 210 Federal Street, Auckland 1010, New Zealand.
Applications submitted by courier post may take longer to process.
What to expect after you submit your application
Once we’ve received your application, Firearms Safety and Education New Zealand will contact you to arrange a time to interview you.
You will need to show Firearms Safety and Education New Zealand your secure storage facilities are suitable for the proposed activities and the classes of arms items held for those activities.
Outcome of your application
If we approve your application, you’ll receive a letter.
If we are considering refusing your application, you’ll receive a letter, and be given the opportunity to provide further information and make a submission. After the response time has lapsed, we will consider your submission (if any) and make a final decision.
If it is refused, you may appeal to the District Court. There is no right of review at the Firearms Licensing Review Committee.
