Endorsements

Apply for or renew an endorsement on your firearms licence. You must have an endorsement to possess or use some classes of arms items.

How endorsements work

An endorsement on your firearms licence means you are eligible to apply for a permit to possess or import certain types of arms items – pistols, pistol carbine conversion kits (PCCKs), restricted weapons, restricted firearms or restricted magazines.

Bona fide collector endorsement

You must have an endorsement to collect pistols, restricted weapons, restricted firearms, and restricted magazines.

Memento or heirloom endorsement

You must have an endorsement if you want to keep a pistol, restricted weapon, restricted firearm or restricted magazine that has special significance to you.

Animal and biosecurity control endorsement

You must have an endorsement to use restricted firearms and restricted magazines for animal and biosecurity control work.

Pistol target shooting endorsement

You must have an endorsement to use pistols for target shooting in New Zealand.

Broadcaster, theatrical, living history, and theatrical armourer endorsements

Licence endorsement fee reminder (two options - pay once)

There are two options to pay your endorsement application fee, but you should only pay once:

through MyFirearms, OR
at a NZ Post shop.

The easiest way to pay is through MyFirearms when doing your endorsement application online (Please note a 1.9% surcharge applies to card payments).

If you are not applying through MyFirearms, pay your application fee at a NZ Post shop.

Fees include GST, cover the cost of processing your application, and are not refundable, regardless of the outcome of your application.
